Klopp on Ballon D'OR Results

Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp believes that the Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk deserves the Ballon D'OR award for the best player in the world.

Barcelona's Lionel Messi was crowned the best player in the world by France Football magazine on Monday.

Messi has the record number 6 titles, beating his direct follower Cristiano Ronaldo, who won the award 5 times.

Van Dijk finished second, then Ronaldo in third place, Sadio Mane in fourth place, and Mo Salah in fifth.

"Messi is the best player I have ever seen, I've said that 5,000 times before, but Van Dyck also deserves the Golden Award after his great season with Liverpool," Klopp said in press statements today.

"I don't remember any player who did better than Van Dijk on the defensive level, so he also deserves the golden ball."

According to the French "France Football", Van Dijk lost the Ballon d'Or this year, just 7 points behind Messi.

The report explained that Van Dyck approached the golden ball, after he got 679 points, but Messi surpassed him and scored 686 points.

France Football confirmed that this year’s poll resulted in one of the closest results among the contenders in the award’s history.
