Takumi Minamino, Our No 18


Liverpool announced today that they have signed a contract with Japanese striker Takumi Minamino (24 years old), coming from Austrian Red Bull Salzburg.


The Japanese international Minamino passed the medical examination yesterday (Wednesday, the 18th), and agreed to personal terms to become an official player in the ranks of Liverpool when the winter transfer window opens in the first of January 2020.


Liverpool has not released any details about the player's contract


Minamino will wear the Number 18.

Minamino spoke to Liverpoolfc.com and said:

"My dream was to become a player in Liverpool......I cannot believe it has become true."
"Playing in the Premier League was one of my goals, as it is the strongest league in the world .. I expected if my career as a footballer went smoothly, one day I will be able to play in the English Premier League."
"But I never thought that I would be able to play in Liverpool, so I'm really happy with that."

Minamino participated in 199 games with Salzburg, where he scored 64 goals, he also played 22 games with Japan.


Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp said that Takumi Minaminho would be a "great deal" after the club signed his contract today.


"This is great news - a great deal, we are very happy with it, Takumi is a fast player, and very skilled, who finds spaces between the lines of the opposition" Klopp said to the club's official website.


And the Gaffer added:

"He is brave when he has the ball, and he is brave without the ball - he is a suitable team player. He does his best to help others."

And on how Liverpool won the Minamino race ahead of rivals Manchester United, Klopp said:

"It is an amazing job from the football operations team on how to deal with this deal. Michael Edwards and the team deserve a big tribute."

Liverpool fans discovered Minamino well, playing twice with Salzburg in the Champions League group stage this season.


Minamino followed the path taken by Sadio Mane and Naby Keita, who both have played for Salzburg before moving to Liverpool.


The player declared that his goal is to win the Premier League and the Champions League. with the Reds.


Minamino could play his first match for Liverpool on January 5th, when the reds face the neighbors and rivals Everton in the third round of the FA Cup.


The last player who has made his debut for liverpool in a derby match was VVD.
